THE suspension of Patag barangay chairman Benedicto Fabricante has turned into a political battle royale between the ruling PaDayon Pilipino and the opposition. The latter takes cudgels for Fabricante against what it said was a "grand plan" to neutralize anti-administration figures. This as Fabricante's lawyers last Tuesday asked the court to issue an injunction on Mayor Constantino Jaraula's order placing the barangay official under 90-day preventive suspension for grave abuse of power and falsificat

Klaro nga singled out gyud si Fabricante. Grabe, sa 80 ka barangay sa syudad, daghan pa mas grabe pa nga mga kaso, siya gyud ang gipili   -Roger Abaday

IF THEY can't produce a single land title for the P1-per-lot program beneficiary within 15 days, then Cagayan de Oro Mayor Constantino Jaraula and Vice Mayor Vicente Emano should also pledge to resign from their posts. The condition is contained in a draft "memorandum of undertaking" that minority councilors vowed to sign, under which they laid the provisions governing their promise to resign once City Hall fails to distribute the much-debated land titles. Councilors Roger Abaday, Vicente Lao and Zald

MAYOR Constantino Jaraula took up the challenge on City Hall's controversial P1-per-lot program or "piso-piso," saying opposition councilors should have their "resign manifesto" signed already to prove they are not engaged in scare tactic. "If this is a game of scare tactic to frighten us then let's make it real, if only to expose who are engage in nonsense rant," he said. He even taunted the minority bloc, saying its members may even fall off their seats from the horrors of losing the challenge to th

MEMBERS of the Cagayan de Oro City Council's minority bloc vowed to resign if City Hall can produce a single title of its controversial P1-per-lot program. While the challenge is nothing new, opposition councilors say they will sign this time a notarized manifesto complete with witnesses to prove they mean business. The manifesto, according to Councilor Teodulfo Lao, will contain only one condition: "That the administration can produce a deed of sale evidencing the P1 purchase by any beneficiary of th

WHAT started out as a dull City Council session Tuesday quickly turned into an animated debate over whether the body should authorize the mayor to negotiate an expropriation or just go ahead and expropriate for road-right-of-way. Under proposed Ordinances 2009-245 and 2009-246, the City Council will authorize the mayor through the City Legal Office to negotiate with Flora Emata and spouses Michael and Stela Sison for acquisition of their property in Barangay 21 in Cagayan de Oro to be used as road-right-

LOCAL opposition figures defended Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno Monday in his word war with Cagayan de Oro Vice Mayor Vicente Emano, calling the latter a "control freak", who treats party mates as "slaves" rather than equals. Gusa barangay chief Enrico Salcedo and Councilors Teodulfo Lao and Roger Abaday said they know whereof they speak: They were once loyal adherents of PaDayon Pilipino — the indigenous party founded by Emano. "Been there, done that. We know how the system works in PaDayon;

A PRO-administration councilor who reportedly owes a government-run market at least P2 million in rental fees should step down from office—if he has any delicadeza left in him. This was the call of the minority bloc in the City Council, who called Councilor Reynaldo Advincula a "disgrace" to the local legislative body, while criticizing the leadership of the administration party for "closing their eyes" to the conflict of interest that has entangled the councilor's businesses in the city's public markets

This is way beyond the issue of delicadeza, or of impropriety. This is graft and corruption. This is about a public official abusing his power and he’s not being held accountable because he is aligned to the administration party   -Roger Abaday

DRAWING flak for his conspicuous absence at the House committee inquiry on the controversial bioethanol plant project, Cagayan de Oro Councilor Ian Acenas said he was attending "equally important" engagements and that he was not aware of it in the first place. Members of the City Council's minority bloc quickly pounced on the non attendance of all administration officials during Thursday's inquiry initiated by the House ecology committee, branding it "brazen" and "insensitive." Neither Councilor Acena

REPRESENTATIVES of 48 families from Bulao, Barangay Iponan trooped to City Hall Tuesday to complain that they have not yet received the promised financial assistance from the Cagayan de Oro City Government. In a special report, Councilor Zaldy Ocon presented a list of 48 families, victims of a series of flash floods in January this year.
